College Expansions

The University of Houston is planning to expand. The Pearland campus will focus more on health services while the Katy satellite campus system is also planning to offer bachelor and masters level degree programs in engineering, business, education and other fields. Also, Lone Star College have broken ground on a Construction and Skilled Trades Technology Center.  The fast-growing Lone Star College system is the largest higher education  institution in Houston and is the 22nd-biggest government-sector employer in the Houston area with 2,757 employees.

TRAINING INITIATIVE - 

UPSKILL HOUSTON

 

 

 

The Greater Houston Partnership's UpSkill Houston initiative is the nation's first business-led, community-wide, integrated workforce effort. The initiative focuses on closing the skills gap in Houston by increasing the number of Houstonians trained for great careers across the region. 

The Partnership forecasts nearly 75,000 annual jobs openings in these "middle skills" careers that require more than a high school education but less than a four-year college degree. Most community colleges offer training for middle-skill jobs.

On-the-Job Training (OJT) offers participants an opportunity to earn as they learn while focusing on jobs that involve new technologies, production, service or additional skills for full-time positions (at least 30 hours per week) paying at least $10.00 per hour or more.

Rice Tutors is currently hiring 3  experienced tutors in math, science, English, writing, Spanish, Latin and test prep to teach elementary school through college level students. Tutoring occurs in students' homes in the area that includes West University, River Oaks, Memorial, Bellaire. Candidates are required to have two years tutoring or teaching experience and a bachelors degree.

Wharton County Junior College is currently hiring 4 part-time chemistry instructors. These positions require a minimum of a Master's Degree (in Chemistry or other discipline) with 18 graduate hours in Chemistry. It also requires credentials that meet minimum requirements for teaching at the post secondary level set by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the Texas Education Agency, and accrediting agencies for individual programs
