Unemployment Benefits
The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) handles Unemployment Insurance (UI) claims and benefits. Information on this page will guide you through filing a claim and checking the status of your benefits.
Qualifying for Unemployment Benefits
To qualify for unemployment compensation, you must be separated from your job through no fault of your own, be available for work, and be actively looking for work.
- When applying for benefits, have the following information ready:
- Last employer’s business name and address
- First and last dates (month, day, year) you worked for your last employer
- Number of hours worked and pay rate for the current week (including Sunday)
- Information about your normal wage
- Alien Registration Number, if you are not a U.S. citizen or national
Note: If it is your first time applying for unemployment benefits, you will create a PIN during the application process. If you have filed a claim before, you will need to reset your PIN.
