Before applying for a scholarship, we help you explore career pathways that match your interests, experience, and goals. This includes meeting with a Workforce Solutions – Gulf Coast career advisor for a career assessment and using tools like CareerOneStop’s Interest Assessment and Skills Matcher, mySkills myFuture for reskilling or career transitions, Texas Reality Check to align lifestyle goals with real job salaries, and the ALICE Income Calculator to understand household income needs. These resources ensure you choose a pathway that is right for you and your future.

Making informed career decisions starts with understanding the jobs and industries in your area. With so many opportunities in the Gulf Coast region, it can be challenging to know where to start or what skills and education you need. By matching this information with your interests and goals, you can identify the career pathway that is right for you. The Gulf Coast Workforce Board focuses on targeted industries that drive the region’s economy and offer strong, long-term opportunities. These sectors include healthcare, energy, construction, manufacturing, education, and technology. 

Your Path Doesn’t End with Training

Once your career plan is set, your advisor will help determine scholarship eligibility and connect you to additional resources, including online job readiness training and financial aid through WIOA and other programs. We will continue supporting you throughout your job search by helping with resume and cover letter creation, interview preparation, accessing job boards like WorkInTexas, LinkedIn, and Indeed, and providing referrals for licensing, supplies, tools, or work gear as needed.

You may be required to submit the following documentation to access certain services:

• Proof of age
• Authorization to work in the U.S.
• Selective service registration (if applicable)
• Proof of income or public assistance
