Governor Abbott, THECB Announce $17 Million for Workforce Training Grants
May 04, 2026
Greg Abbott and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) have announced the opening of applications for nearly $17 million in state grants to support short-term workforce education and training programs in high-demand fields.
The funding will help eligible public two-year colleges and technical schools develop, redesign, or expand programs that lead to industry-recognized credentials and employment opportunities.
Currently, two grant opportunities are open:
- Texas Invests in Meaningful Employment (TIME) Grant
Provides up to $500,000 per institution to implement new or expand existing short-term career and technical education (CTE) certificate programs aligned with high-demand occupations.
Deadline: May 15, 2026 - TRUE Pathways Design & Planning Grant
Provides $150,000–$200,000 to support the design and planning of new CTE credential pathways, including curriculum development and alignment with employer needs in high-demand fields.
Deadline: May 29, 2026
Both programs aim to expand career and technical education pathways and help students earn credentials aligned with workforce needs.
A third program, the Texas Reskilling and Upskilling through Education (TRUE) Grant, is part of the state’s broader investment and is expected to open for applications later this summer.
Administered by THECB, the grants prioritize programs aligned with workforce demand and developed in partnership with workforce stakeholders.
Workforce Solutions Gulf Coast supports colleges and training providers by offering labor market data, employer connections, and guidance on aligning programs with regional workforce needs.
