Meet Shonda Below: Advocating for People and Opportunity

Shonda Below has built her career around serving others. From supporting children in foster care to teaching special education for 15 years, her work has consistently focused on helping people reach their full potential. Today, as president of the American Federation of Teachers, she continues that mission through leadership and advocacy.

Her commitment to service is what drew her to the Gulf Coast Workforce Board. She values the opportunity to work alongside leaders from different industries, all focused on strengthening the region and expanding opportunities for the people who call it home.

Away from work, Below enjoys life’s simple moments. Whether she’s taking a walk while listening to music or spending time with her family and two grandsons, those moments help her recharge and stay connected to what matters most.
